The I-4 Americas satellite's position directly over the region makes it easier to point a BGAN terminal at the satellite, so data rates are optimised. In addition, a greater concentration of spot beams over the land mass provides enhanced quality of service. Network coverage in North America has been extended to include parts of Western Canada and Alaska for the first time. Inmarsat's presence in the region is further enhanced with the introduction of a new satellite access station based at Paumalu in Hawaii.
